Der Lakonische Golf  liegt  im südöstlichen  Jonischen Meer südlich der Peloponnes  Die Meeresbucht liegt zwischen der Halbinsel   Mani  im Westen und der  Lakonischen Halbinsel im Osten. Im Südwesten des Golfs liegt die Insel Elafonisos, weiter südlich bildet die Insel  Kythira die Grenze zwischen dem Ionischen Meer und der  Ägäis. --  Lakonien war ein Landstrich des Peloponnes im alten Griechenland, der von den wortkargen Spartanern besiedelt wurde. Die lakonische Hauptstadt war SPARTA
